Local Knowledge / Australian News

Jack Furey and his skipper Joel Aulich (pictured at right at the Delta Lloyd Cadet World Championships 2008 in Medemblik, the Netherlands) competed in the Yachting Victoria 2008 Youth & Junior Championships at Chelsea Yacht Club last weekend. They raced in Division 4, the Junior 2-Hander division (2 man boats) and won their event comfortably. Six races were sailed with one allowed to be discarded. They won all five of the races they counted and in doing so comfortably beat the current Victorian State champion in their International Cadet class. They were very pleased to be the top performing (i.e. lowest points scored) yacht in the entire regatta. They showed pleasing improvement following the preceding weekend’s Coaching Clinic with Tasmanian Coach and former World International Cadet Champion, Paul Burnell.Following the racing, Jack and Joel were presented with their trophies by current and former (2004) Olympic Sailor, Sarah Blanck. They are progressing very nicely towards their goal of performing well for Australia at the International Cadet World Championships in Medemblik, The Netherlands, in July / August 2008.
